Let me start with some facts that I googled tonight about this fire hot pepper. The habanero is ranked number 2 for the hottest pepper in the world. Yikes! It most likely originated in the Yucatán Peninsula. The color is a bright vibrant orange and the size is on average 1-2" long. We see them in mass abundance at all of the markets here.
Recently Jeff & I ate out at a new restaurant near our new home. It was a traditional Mexican restaurant with flavors inspired by the Yucatan. Specifically the flavor and spices of the habanero chili. So tonight we decided to BBQ some steaks and to attempt our own habanero chili sauce.
My wonderful cook & husband decided to begin preparing the habanero & not long into it his finger tips were on fire. The kids were so intriqued that JJ decided to have a lick of the pepper. His mouth & lips started to burn but for the most part ok! Leah who always has to prove she can do whatever her big brother can took a lick and then another. Imediatly she felt the burn in her mouth & it was all over from there. The burn went to her lips, then up her face and her whole body was sweating. (really her shirt was drenched) Her face went red and the tears started pouring out of her eyes. All she could say was that her face was on fire and how much it hurt.
My poor baby, I put her in a cold shower and just kept her face in the water. The pain and suffering felt better after 20 minutes and my heart was hurting for my baby girl. She was back to her self in no time but will propably never forget this night!
