San Sabastian Mexico

We recently visited a city set back in time, San Sebastian Mexico. This place really took my breath away. I love history and everything mysterious that goes along with it. San Sebastian was originally discovered in the late 1500s and settled in 1603, the town peaked as a center of mining operations in the area.

After roughly two hours of driving north of Puerto Vallarta and then east deep into the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains we came upon familiar cobblestone roads and even more familiar to our rooted NW family was the sweet scent of pine trees. Yes you read correct. Pine trees in Mexico! And pine cones to go along with them!

Like all traditional cities in Mexico the plaza in San Sebastian is full of people watchers, children playing, old men drinking beer while playing chess. Its wonderful and really felt like I was in an old movie. The streets were so quite. I never herd a TV or loud music, just simple chitter chatter while people enjoyed each others presence.

We spent the day taking a very slow uneventful day walking and exploring this new place we found. We stepped into many little hand crafted shops, had local coffee at a corner cafe and lunch at this great restaurant just as you enter the main plaza with great traditional Mexican cuisine. yummy!
